Don’t Let A Natural Disaster Wipe You Out

Not to dampen your mood, but are you prepared for a hurricane? We Houstonians know how to keep our families safe and our heads dry. But what about our documents?

There are a few things you’ll want to keep close – and keep dry – during a storm. It’s important to have cash on hand, in case there’s an issue with credit cards or ATMs. Remember to make duplicates of car and house keys. Most crucially, you’ll want to print paper copies of important documents like passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, marriage certificates, social security cards, mortgages, estate planning, power of attorney, wills, property deeds, and of course, your insurance information. All of this should be kept safe… Preferably in a waterproof safe. But if you don’t have a safe on your premises, we can help you out. Consider using ”The Vault” on the Raymond James app or website. We’ll store photos of IDs, credit cards, and any other documents you may need.

While we live in a digital age, hurricanes can send us back to the olden days. Harness your inner luddite and prepare to go tech-free in case of a power outage. Make sure you have contact information written down for your friends, colleagues, doctors, and family members.

No matter where you are, natural disasters happen. An emergency kit will keep tornadoes from throwing you for a loop. Follow our advice – and don’t get burnt by a wildfire. Preparedness could stop an earthquake from rocking your world. And tune in next week for more advice. Unlike a power outage… we’ll never leave you in the dark.
